Aram I and Bashar al-Assad meet in Syria

Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia Aram I and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met at Damascus presidential palace Wednesday.

The Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia informed Armenian News – that during the meeting, which lasted for more than several hours, Syrian President thoroughly presented Aram I the information on the domestic political and security situation, as well as the recent events.

In this context, Aram I welcomed the re-establishment of peace in Aleppo, wishing establishment of peace and solidarity in the entire territory of Syria in the nearest future.

He also referred to the denying and destructive role of Turkey in the region in general and especially in the Syrian territory. The Catholicos also stressed that the restoration process will soon start with the involvement of the Christian community, in particular the Armenians.

At this official meeting, Aram I was accompanied by the leader of Beria Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Shahan Archbishop Sarkisian, Armenian deputy of Syrian parliament Zhirayr Reisyan, member of the central department of the Great House of Cilicia, George Shahinyan, member of the Deputy Council Garo Yuzbashian and Chairman of the National Department, Dikran Petrosian.
