In its current efforts towards amending its basic law, Nagorno-Karabakh has chosen the model built on the principles of democracy, an Armenian deputy foreign minister said today, commenting on the constitutional reforms in the country.
Asked to comment on the opinions that the concept on agenda is often compared with Azerbaijan’s constitution, Shavarsh Kocharyan expressed his absolute disagreements to the remark.
He said he finds the document more similar to the United States’ constitution model. “I would never compare the American and Azerbaijani models with each another. Azerbaijan’s is a constitution of a despotic regime; the American [model] is anchored on the institution of the president,” the official noted.
He added that the model choice in Karabakh stemmed basically from considerations of the external threat.
