In the framework of the program on renovating the libraries operating by Yerevan Municipality, new and comfortable conditions will be offered to book lovers after decades of halt. The work will be completely finished during the current year, following which the libraries will fully serve their purpose. Due to the program, Yerevan’s Shengavit District Library No. 32 will welcome around 2500 of its readers offering more comfortable conditions. During the visit of the Mayor of Yerevan to the mentioned administrative district, those in charge of the program reported to him that the library building that had 4th category emergency repair status was entirely destroyed, a new one being constructed instead.
“During the last 3 years, 36 libraries were renovated. We have 19 libraries with 18 branches, as well as 3 archives subordinated to the Municipality. This year we are going to entirely finish the renovation of the libraries. By the way, this program was very much expected, since the libraries hadn’t been renovated for decades,” the Mayor said.
According to the Mayor, measures are also taken to provide the renovated libraries not only with book collections, but also with computers, other modern equipment and technical means.
“Concrete steps are being taken to create electronic book collections. And I’m sure that after completing all this work, our fellow citizens will very soon again start using libraries frequently and with great pleasure, as in old good times,” he said.
