President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, who is on a working visit to Brazil, arrived in capital city Brasília on Friday.
After the official reception ceremony, Sargsyan met with the Acting President of Brazil Michel Temer.
The Armenian President first expressed gratitude for the warm reception and congratulated Michel Temer on hosting the Olympics in Brazil. He also thanked him on behalf of the Armenian athletes for all the necessary conditions provided in Rio de Janeiro, as well as considerate treatment towards them.
According to Sargsyan, apart from being a great sport holiday, the Olympics are also a message of peace to the entire world. He expressed hope that the games going on in Brazil these days will reestablish these ideas, which are important for the entire humanity, and contribute to the improvement and healing of the international climate.
In this context, Sargsyan underscored the importance of the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, stressing that Armenia attaches great importance to the balanced and impartial position of Brazil regarding this issue.
At the meeting, the heads of both states exchanged views on the possibilities of further enhancement and deepening of cooperation and relations between Armenia and Brazil in different spheres. President Sargsyan noted with satisfaction that solid friendly ties have been established between the two countries on the basis of respect and confidence. He also attached importance to the development of various ties with Brazil, which is one of the most leading and powerful countries in terms of both policy and economy. The President expressed hope that his visit will contribute to the further enhancement of the bilateral ties, outlining the new directions of future cooperation.
Apart from this, Sargsyan highly appreciated the recognition of the Armenian Genocide by the Brazilian Senate last year. According to the President, the document recognizing the Genocide truly describes the Brazilian people, their system of values and moral incentives.
The importance of developing intergovernmental ties was also underscored, stressing the role of the deputy friendship groups’activity in the parliaments of both countries.
