Human Rights critics to Azerbaijan, overshadow European Games 2015 in Baku

The Human Rights Watch organization, which advocates respect for human rights worldwide, demanded Azerbaijan to release before the European Games to be held in June 2015 in Baku, all activists and journalists wrongly detained in that country.

“As the first country to hold this new major European sporting event, Azerbaijan is looking to project a progressive and modern image internationally. If the European Games are to show that sport can leave a positive legacy, then every journalist and activist detained on political motivated charges should be released well before the opening ceremony,” said Jane Buchanan, by Human Rights Watch, as confirms Armenpress.

She added that the organization calls European leaders warn Baku that theywill not send high-level delegations to the opening ceremony unless they release these detainees and  the crackdown on dissidents stops..
