Minister of Agriculture Ignati Arakelyan on Monday received the Syrian ambassador to Armenia to discuss bilateral plans for a more intensive cooperation in the sector.
At the meeting with Seyed Kazem Sadjadi, the minister referred particularly to an earlier agreement signed with the Syrian Ministry of Agriculture and Agrarian Reform, describing it as a good opportunity for developing the partnership. “The Armenian minister of agriculture is a co-chair of the Armenian-Syrian intergovernmental committee, which I think also enables us to make the cooperation mutually beneficial,” he said, according to a press release by the Ministry of Agriculture.
For his part, the ambassador agreed despite the strong political ties, the two countries still need further efforts to develop economic and agricultural cooperation.
He briefed the minister on a list of agricultural products which Syria is now ready import to Armenia.
The sides also agreed on measures towards fostering the business dialogue.
